James 1:26
"If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless"
Sometimes we forget the power our words have. The things we speak effect others and ourselves. Today's bible verse talks about this. Another version reads like this,"If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless." the whole bible speaks about how words effect us and that we should control our mouths. As Christians we are called to love, encourage, and edify one another. If we speak negative things then no one will be able to believe you when you are positive and encouraging. According to this verse one negative statement can make you look foolish and it will be hard for people to take you serious.
Another verse that tells us to watch our words is Proverbs 18:21" The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences." our words are powerful and can really encourage or destroy someone or even ourselves. You can bring life or death to someone or a situation.
As athletes we tend to be difficult on ourselves and others when we are training. We have a natural sense of competition and sometimes that can take over. Always remember that the things we speak out will come to pass in a negative way or positive way. Let us be a community of people who always speak life and never look foolish by the things we say. When he can't get that pull-up, snatch, or someone does better than you that day, we speak life. "I will get that pull-up I know it." " Hey you did an awesome job on the WOD today you have improved so much, I am proud of you."
If we do these things and truly ask God to help us be this way, God will never be worthless and our words will mean a great deal
