Wednesday - WOD 48 - Stay Humble


Romans 12:3
"Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don't think you are better than what you are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us."

Wow that is a little harsh! Is it though? Or is this just great wisdom that we all should live by? This is just saying that pride comes before the fall. That we should stay humble in all things. It is so very dangerous to start thinking that you are the best and that you are perfect. When you start to get blinded by
pride you don't see the great things that are going on around you.

How can this help us in our walk as athletes? Since we are in the midst of competition season I feel this is a great time to be real about this.  These competitions and the open are a great way to evaluate our progress this past year. It is so simple to fall into the trap of thinking that you have mastered everything and when you don't perform as well as you thought, we play the blame game. We blame other people, the program, or equipment, instead of taking ownership of our own performance. Or you see other athletes performing better than you and it brings you down.

The result of this is you don't truly see your improvement or your amazing abilities. You are focused on who to blame or you're comparing yourself to others. If we just stay humble and grounded we will always give it our best and see how we have improved and be able to congratulate others when they do well. People think success is in the accomplishments and the accolades. In reality if we measure are success by that then we will never reach success. Success is in enjoying the journey you take in getting to those accomplishments and accolades.

Remember stay humble and don't be blinded by pride. If we are able to do this we will truly be able to honestly and effectively evaluate ourselves. Also, don't allow pride to rob you of the awesome journey you are on every single day.
